  • General Tips

    • Take only as much luggage as necessary for the trip.
    • Place your name, business address and telephone number on the inside and outside of each piece of baggage. If the outside tag is accidentally torn off, identification can then be made, in an emergency, from the inside label.
    • In a foreign country, familiarize yourself with the location and telephone number of the nearest Canadian Embassy (or embassy of your country of origin).
    • Always carry your passport with you when travelling abroad.
    • When you are with family, ensure that everyone has proper identification. Always carry recent photographs of your children.
    • Carry a prescription for all medication, and don't forget vaccination or medical declarations that you may need for other countries.
    • Avoid eating raw vegetables, unpeeled fruits, raw meats, non-pasteurized milk products and ice while travelling abroad. It is recommended to drink bottled water.

    Air Travel

Frequent travellers can guard against circulatory problems and decrease the physical side effects of air travel by following a few simple suggestions.

    • Chances are you wouldn't sit in the same seat without moving for hours at home or at the office, so try to stretch your legs with a walk around the cabin (when safe to do so) at least once an hour. Even in your seat, rotate your ankles and stretch your arms over your head - anything to keep your blood flowing.
    • Drink plenty of water. This will keep you hydrated during a long flight. Juice is a good alternative, but limit caffeine intake. Pass on the alcohol since its effects are magnified in the air and can leave you feeling restless instead of relaxed. Colas and coffee have caffeine and may add to in-flight dehydration.
    • Airline meal selections can contain hidden fat. If you are concerned with your meal selection, request a low-fat, vegetarian or other specialty meal in advance through your CAA counsellor. Also, bring along some healthy snacks that can come to the rescue if your flight is delayed or you need a quick pick-me-up on the way.
