Passing the Gavel My tenure as chair of the CAA Saskatchewan Board of Directors has drawn to a close, and it is with great satisfaction that I reflect upon the success of the organization over the past two years. Our membership remains strong at 185,000 and continues to grow, though we already serve more than 50 per cent of Saskatchewan homes with drivers. We have enhanced our services, including renovating our Yorkton and Saskatoon East locations and adding travel clothing and merchandise. We also expanded our WestWorld Tours motorcoach company and added an auto insurance product. To improve our high standard of customer service, we became a Service Best Business after training nearly 95 per cent of our staff with the Service Best workshops provided by the Saskatchewan Tourism Educational Council. CAA Saskatchewan went on to win this year’s Tourism Saskatchewan Service Excellence award in the Business category. As well, we continued our work as a safety and environmental advocate for motorists. Nationally, we developed an eco-choice calculator, an online tool to help drivers compare the price, fuel economy and environmental impact of new vehicles. We launched a bi-annual national survey called Members Say to gather opinions on safety issues. We also raised public awareness on distracted driving and vehicle/bike safety. Locally, CAA Saskatchewan was again sponsor of Carpool Week and continued our coordination of the School Safety Patrol Program and promotion of safe driving. I look forward to my new role as past chair and working with new chair Ted Hillstead towards continued success. Larry Haas, Yorkton |
