Summertime fun and that exhilarating feeling of the wind in your hair while you ride in your boat, RV, or classic car while on vacation is hard to beat.
BOATS: Boat insurance is a bit of a combination of your home and auto coverages. You will need to check with your broker to ensure you have full coverage both in and out of the water and while it is being stored in the winter. Liability is a factor with boat insurance as well.
RV: Live in vehicles and trailers are a bit of a combination program too. Movable contents are often covered under your home and property insurance but the vehicle itself requires license plates and extra coverage just like your vehicle. Liability is essential when operating an RV or towing a trailer.
CLASSIC CARS: Classic cars can be more expensive to repair and therefore more costly to insure. Be sure that you have an inspection and appraisal done and insure to the full value to avoid being assessed depreciation on a specialty vehicle that has unique features.
END OF SEASON PREPAREDNESS: When the fun is done be sure to prepare for storage to avoid excessive wear and tear and damages. Extended periods of inactivity can be hard on any vehicle. Corrosion will spread, moisture can freeze during the cold months and lubrication can congeal creating challenges next spring. You should pay attention to the following at the end of summer; •
- Drain all plumbing lines
- Remove any portable propane tanks
- Remove all food to keep rodents away
- Tarp vehicle/boat to minimize moisture getting in
- Rest tires on concrete surface to minimize sinking
- Clean awnings and store in a dry place to avoid mold and mildew
- Remove all valuables
- Close and lock all vents and panels
- Check on it regularly
