Important Update for Canadian Travelers to the U.S.
Effective April 11, 2025, new U.S. immigration regulations will require certain Canadian visitors to complete a registration process with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). If you travel to the U.S. and are not issued an electronic Form I-94 upon entry, you must complete this registration to remain compliant with U.S. travel requirements.
Who Needs to Register?
If you are a Canadian citizen aged fourteen or older and do not receive an electronic Form I-94 upon entry to the United States, you must register with USCIS.
Steps to Ensure Compliance:
- Check Your I-94 Status
- After entering the U.S., visit the I-94 website to check your most recent I-94 status.
- If an electronic I-94 has been issued, print a copy and carry it with you as proof of registration.
- If No I-94 is Issued:
- Complete Form G-325R (Biographic Information) online via a USCIS account.
- The form requires details such as your legal name, birthdate, U.S. entry details, address, contact information, and immigration status.
- Once submitted, USCIS will provide a Proof of G-325R Registration notice, which you should print and carry with you while in the U.S.
Additional Information
- Canadian citizens are exempt from fingerprinting (biometrics) in this process.
- The Canadian Snowbird Association (CSA) is working with U.S. officials to seek exemptions for Canadian travelers.
- If you are flying into the U.S., you should be issued this form automatically so this will primarily apply to Canadians driving into the U.S. If you are unsure, however, just visit the I-94 website to confirm that you are covered.
- For further details and updates, visit the Canadian Snowbird Association website.
